Blouberg at a glance

Situated north from the City of Cape Town is one of South Africa's fastest growing suburbs. Blouberg boasts iconic views of Table Mountain from across Table Bay. The name Bloubergstrand literally means "blue mountain beach" in Afrikaans, and is derived from Blaauwberg, a nearby mountain.

Bloubergstrand is mainly a residential area, and attracts large numbers of visitors, especially kitesurf enthusiasts. The area is home to many families as it has to offer a wide selection of apartments and flats; many of which have marvellous sea views as well as a decent number of houses and security estates. Over the years some of our locals have come to nickname this area of the Cape Town 'The Goldmine Of The West Coast' due to the growth in the value of properties there over the last number of  years.

Residents reside in enviable proximity to the following magnificent beaches:  Table View Beach: the kitesurfers' playground; Bloubergstrand and Dolphin Beach. The wind can be relentless but locals use it to their advantage; this is the centre for kitesurfing and windsurfing in Cape Town.

Blouberg lies 20kms away from both the Cape Town International Airport as well as Cape Town City Centre.  Commuters to the City have a choice between private transport or the well-regarded MyCiTi  buses , the Cape Town Integrated Rapid Transit system.

Blouberg is divided into 2 beaches: Big Bay is a long stretch of beach popular to kite surfers due to the wind, while also being perfect for long walks and sunset watching. Little Bay has lawns and areas for those looking to picnic and braai whilst the kids can free range  amongst the rock pools.

The Bloubergstrand area falls within a marine nature reserve and the extraction of species such as Cape rock lobster and abalone is prohibited.  In season southern right whales, occasionally killer whaleshumpback dolphinsHaviside's dolphin and Cape fur seals are commonly seen in the bay.

Popular local eateries tend to include spectacular scenery as a back drop and include upmarket options like On the Rocks for waters-edge dining and Blowfish  as well as more family-friendly options such as the local landmark, Ons Huisie and the uber-casual Doodles . The Blue Peter  is another memorable haunt with a view, perched on edge of Blouberg beach since the 19th century, making it one of the most enduring local gathering spots.

A variety of primary and high schools include:  the dual medium Table View Primary School, West Coast Christian Academy and Elkanah House  which offers IEB curriculum catering from pre-primary to senior school across 4 campuses.  The Cambridge Curricula are also available via the Blouberg International School .

Shopaholics are spoilt for choice by the expansive Bayside Mall, Seaside Village Shopping Centre and Eden on the Bay.  A plethora of international and local retail options are available at nearby Canal Walk.

Local medical facilities include Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital , Spescare Bloubergstrand    which specialises in sub-acute, rehabilitative and convalescent care and Intercare, offering a wide array of general medical services. Life Vincent Palotti Hospital - incorporating the specialised Life Orthopaedic Hospital - is one of Cape Town's most established hospitals and can be found a short distance away in Parklands.

The area offers buyers a wide array of  more reasonably priced options within Cape Town and the enviable benefits of a coastal lifestyle.
