Liliesleaf Farm, nestled in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg, holds a profound legacy as a safe house for African National Congress (ANC) activists during the tumultuous apartheid era. Interestingly enough, the house was purchased initially by the SA Communist Party in 1963. This sanctuary became the epicentre of the Rivonia Trial when the South African police raided the farm, leading to the arrest of numerous ANC leaders and activists. 

The site itself has been the centre of recent controversy following a massive corruption scandal when allocated funds for its renovation had been misused. The option to permanently close the site was on the table until The Department of Arts and Culture took over management. Today, Liliesleaf Farm stands as a museum and national heritage site, preserving the struggles and sacrifices of those who fought for the nation's freedom.

Sammy Marks Museum

Sammy Marks, a man who arrived in South Africa with little more than a case of silver knives, became a prominent entrepreneur shaping the nation's mining, industrial, and agricultural sectors. 

The Sammy Marks Museum, located on the farm Zwartkoppies 364 JR, along the Bronkhorstspruit road, about 23 km outside Pretoria, is a tribute to his remarkable journey. Zwartkoppies Hall, once his family residence, is now a window into history. After its restoration, the museum offers visitors a glimpse into the opulence of Marks' life and his contributions to South Africa's development.

Cederberg Wilderness Area
