Interior design - Redesign your Bathroom

We're saying goodbye to dull bathrooms and instead reimagining these spaces to incorporate the latest in interior design trends. We're looking at some décor tips and tricks to help you completely redesign your bathroom this summer.

Gone are the days of uninspiring bathrooms and plain toilets, as more and more people have started redecorating their bathrooms to make them into luxury spaces that are a feature in their homes. When it comes to finding inspiration for redesigning your bathroom, there are an endless number of décor ideas and trends to choose from to help you spruce up the space.

Bigger is better

2020 bathrooms are all about the larger-than-lifestyle: think walk-in showers, gigantic bathtubs and wide-open windows. Open showers can make your bathroom appear bigger than it actually is, while also allowing for more space and a luxurious shower experience. You don't have to worry about not being able to stretch your arms out in these showers- nor will you have to worry about fitting into your bathtubs. Deep-soaking and extra-wide tubs are hugely popular for bathroom remodelling this year.

Island-style vanities

High-end kitchen island-style double vanities have seen a rise in popularity this year. Although this style requires a larger space to work with, the freestanding vanity allows for more storage space and will give your bathroom a truly unique and contemporary feel. However, we recommend working with a designer on this one to ensure the final product fits your desired aesthetic.

Pops of colour

Gone are the days of all-white bathrooms and grey towels- 2020's latest bathroom décor trends are all about colour. Colourful accents, accessories and even wallpapers are the latest ways in which designers and decorators are bringing personal touches to their powder rooms. For a bolder look, try incorporating colourful tiles in blue and green shades - such as pantone's colour of the year: Classic Blue - into your décor or adding or a statement wall with some trendy graphic wallpaper. If you're looking for something more low-key and non-committal, try accessorising the space with colourful towels, candles or plants.

Black is the new silver

Although silver finishings have always been a classic bathroom look, this season it's time to try something more daring by going for sophisticated black finishes instead. Black is ideal for creating that minimalist effect - it's simple, uncluttered and allows for a striking visual continuity, which works as a design feature in itself. Bonus: black taps don't show dirt and those pesky fingerprints quite as much as the metal ones do.

Water-wise designs

Style and environmental consciousness do not have to be mutually exclusive - there are a variety of innovative and accessible water-wise products which you can incorporate into your new bathroom. A few changes could save you hundreds of litres of water a week- and save you hundreds of Rands. Purchasing bathroom fittings with water-saving designs, such as showerheads that will drastically reduce your water usage during showers (without compromising on pressure) and dual flush systems for your toilet, will help bring your water consumption down and ensure your bathroom is an environmentally conscious space.

There are so many changes, both big and small, that you can make to your bathroom to ensure that it is both trendy and functional, that there's no reason not to upgrade your space this season as it will not only change the way your bathroom looks but it will also improve your experience.
