Dreading that school holiday boredom? Don't worry, we've got you covered!

With school holidays looming, the last thing every parent wants to have to worry about is ways to keep their children entertained for an entire month. Luckily there's a myriad of exciting and educational things to do throughout the country these holidays.

To save you some stress we have put together an exciting list of holiday outing ideas for you and your children, that promise to be both fun and educational.

Johannesburg
There's plenty of thrilling, exhilarating and downright awesome things to do with your kids in Johannesburg and its surrounds. Whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush or a day of learning, there's something that caters to your every outing-desire.

If you're looking for a full day adventure which is action-packed and educational then you'll definitely want to visit the Cradle of Humankind. With so much to do and see at Maropeng and the Sterkfontein caves; it's guaranteed to be an amazing, interactive and informative outing for you and the kids.

Explore the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, South Africa's premier science centre, which boasts interactive and dynamic learning experiences in maths, science and technology. Your kids will be captivated by the sheer number of exhibits and experiments, that will keep them busy for hours. If you're heading to Cape Town, you should definitely check out its Cape Town equivalent.

There are few experiences quite like seeing the dazzling night sky projected above you. For an undoubtedly captivating experience that will no doubt capture your child's imagination, take a visit to the WITS Planetarium and sit back and relax as you stargaze, exploring and learning about space. FYI, there is a Planetarium in Cape Town too.

It's universally known that kids love animals, so what better way to spend the day than visiting the Johannesburg Zoo? Learn about a variety of incredible animals, their habitats and the environment as you wander from exhibit to exhibit. Get involved in the animal feeding for a more interactive experience, as well as other crafts and games.

There's certainly no shortage of things to do and see in the mother city, in fact, it's hard just to narrow down the list.

Clay Café caters to your kids every creative need and promises visitors a wonderfully colourful and creative day. With so many ceramic painting options to choose from, a visit to the Clay Café is definitely going to be an enjoyable experience for the whole family

Spending the day outside, enjoying the fresh air and some of the most exquisite views that Cape Town has to offer; sounds like a dream, right? Why not take the family out to Kirstenbosch Gardens to explore and perhaps enjoy a picnic. A bonus would be checking out the awesome anatomically correct Dinosaurs on display.

Calling all Thomas the Tank Engine fans! Take a journey out of the city on the Ceres Steam Train. An adventure for the whole family, this real-life steam train takes you from the Harbour Bridge Hotel in the Foreshore district to Elgin, in a scenic and exciting and takes you on a three-and-a-half-hour train ride. Enjoy the exquisite scenery, explore the train and then enjoy the Elgin Railway Market and all its delightful treats.

You really can't go wrong with the Two Oceans Aquarium. Spend a day getting up close and personal with the magical creatures of the sea. Learn about the oceans, and the importance of preserving them, while enjoying interactive and exciting experiences with penguins being fed, touch pools and brave the gaze of the sharks as they swim languidly around their tank.

The Garden Route/Knysna
Spend the day out and about with your kids, exploring the many wonders of the scenic Garden Route.

To exercise their minds and burn some of their seemingly infinite energy, why not visit the Puzzle Park near Plettenberg Bay? Boasting a large wooden maze and a bunch of puzzle challenges, the Puzzle Park gives you and your kids the chance to solve riddles interactively.

Learn about Africa's gentle giants at the Elephant Sanctuary, near Plettenberg Bay. Enjoy a hands-on, interactive experience day getting to know the sanctuary's elephants. With opportunities to walk trunk-in-hand with them and even feed them, this is bound to be an exciting and educational outing for your family.

Appeal to their sense of adventure and get the adrenaline pumping at Acrobranch. With treetop ziplines, walkways, ladders and tunnels, Acrobranch offer an obstacle course adventure you're not likely to forget anytime soon.

Boasting two hectares (the world's largest) of dome-enclosed indigenous forest and home to 3500 birds from over 220 different species, Birds of Eden offers a spectacular bird-filled experience. Take your kids for a walk around the dome to see the birds flying around and learn about the different species.

With so many amazing holiday outing opportunities, there's really no reason for your kids to complain about being bored at home!
